Carmen Navarro Gercone to appeal politicized election board decision with the Cook County Circuit Court

May 6, 2022

This morning, in the Cook County Circuit Court, attorneys representing Carmen Navarro Gercone will be filing a motion to overrule an unprecedented decision to remove her from the Democratic primary ballot by the Cook County Board of Elections.

“The board leveraged confusion regarding the new qualifications to run for Sheriff of Cook County to ensure that Tom Dart will not have to answer to the voters of Cook County for his abysmal record of keeping our communities safe. It will not work, and I will see him on the ballot on June 28th, 2022.” CNG

Navarro Gerson's team of attorneys are confident that Tom Dart’s efforts to block ballot access to a career veteran of law enforcement and the first woman of color to run for Sheriff will be unsuccessful.

“I spent 26-years putting on my uniform and working my way up the ranks at the Sheriff’s Office, while Tom Dart - a career politician - was being appointed and anointed by the Democratic party." CNG

Carmen Navarro Gercone is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy, a prestigious institution that invites the top 1% of law enforcement leaders from around the globe to train in Quantico, Virginia.

“If the Democratic party is sincere about fighting voter suppression, they will stop Tom Dart's political antics to eliminate diverse and qualified candidates from the ballot. Women deserve better.” Carmen Navarro Gercone
